Our cosmetic surgery options

Cosmetic Surgery Services

The effects of ageing, weight loss, pregnancy, lactation and change of lifestyle on the skin are familiar to most of us. Over time and life conditions, the skin changes in many ways: it loses thickness, loses elasticity and loses adherence to the underlying tissue.

At Sansaya we offer a wide variety of services in our cosmetic surgery department including invasive and non-invasive procedures with the most up-to-date technology.

Liposuction

Liposuction is the most popular cosmetic procedure in the world. More than 800,000 liposuctions are performed yearly in the USA alone. Although diet, exercise and flattering clothing help many to look better, others remain dissatisfied because of stubborn, unsightly bulges. In women, those fat deposits occur most frequently from the waist down, on hips, buttocks and outer thighs.

There are two kinds of liposuction procedures:

Liposculpture

This procedure is designed for sculpting a person who is of a normal weight or slightly overweight. Such people often have distinct areas of localised fat that are disproportionate to the rest of their bodies. Liposculpture can be done with local anaesthesia with or without sedation and is limited to removing one to three litres of fat. After the procedure, a garment must be used for two weeks for best results. Technically this procedure is very challenging because the patient expects perfect results. It is far better to take out slightly less than what is needed than more, since taking more can result in a depression that is hard to correct. Those opting for this procedure must have realistic expectations and must continue to watch their weight afterwards.

De-bulking liposuction surgery

Here the aim is to improve the shape of an overweight person. The procedure is frequently done using spinal anaesthesia with or without sedation. A maximum of 5-8 liters should be taken at any given session using a tumescent technique whereby at least an equal amount of fluids are injected in the areas to be suctioned to minimise bleeding, bruising and post-operative pain.

Liposuction
  • Surgery time 2 - 3 hours (depending on the area of the body)
  • Hospital stay 1 day or 1 night (depending on the severity of the case)
  • Anaesthesia General
  • Time off work 2 - 3 days
  • Getting back to normal including being able to do sports: 2 - 4 weeks
Tummy Tuck

Tummy Tuck

The best candidates for tummy tucks, or abdominoplasty as some people call it, are women or men who are in relatively good shape but are bothered by a large fat deposit or loose abdominal skin around their stomachs. This can be distressing for women or men particularly as it can distort their body shape. The surgery is particularly helpful to women who, through multiple pregnancies, have weak abdominal muscles and are annoyed by loose skin that has been over-stretched and no longer responds to diet and exercise. For those who have experienced a massive loss in weight, their only alternative to lose overhanging skin is surgery.

If you are intending to lose a lot of weight, then you should postpone the surgery until the optimum weight has been achieved. Also, women who are planning future pregnancies should wait as vertical muscles in the abdomen are tightened during surgery which can separate again during pregnancy. There are different types of tummy tucks depending on each case, our specialist will assess you and recommend what will be the best course of action to ensure optimum results. Many patients combine their tummy tuck surgery with other cosmetic procedures such as liposuction and breast augmentation or reduction which can be combined under one general anaesthesia.

  • Surgery time 2 – 3 hours
  • Hospital stay 1 – 2 nights
  • Anaesthesia General
  • Time off work 2 weeks
  • Getting back to normal including being able to do sports: 4 – 6 weeks. However a full recovery from the swelling and bruising can take up to 6 months

Breasts

At Sansaya, we have different breast surgery options available for both women and men. Breast size and shape can affect one’s well-being, self-image, psyche and lifestyle. Having perfect breasts is something that many women desire; and for each woman, the size and shape they desire is different.

Often a reduction in size is necessary since breasts that are too large are not only an aesthetic problem but a medical problem too as patients with larger than normal breasts suffer from chronic back and neck pain.

Breast Augmentation

Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation is a procedure which enlarges breasts by placing a textured implant behind or in front of the chest muscle. The procedure is relatively quick and has a high rate of patient satisfaction as the results are immediately visible. The implant can be inserted through a small incision around the areola area or in the mammary crease under the breast or even in the armpit. Other options available include a fat transfer from another part of the patient’s body. This can be done through liposuction, taking fat from the thighs (for example) and putting it in the breast. This can provide up to a one-cup, bra size increase. All options can be discussed with our specialist.

Breast augmentation is a great procedure for women with very small breasts who are looking to enlarge them for a more balanced look to their body. Women also often suffer after pregnancy and weight loss when their breasts become empty or start to sag. Sometimes women can have one breast larger than the other or a shape that is not very pleasing. This procedure is fantastic in getting a better shape to the overall breast which makes a woman feel more self-confident with her body, opening up lots of different fashion options as well.

  • Surgery time 1 – 2 hours (3 – 4 hours if it includes a lift)
  • Hospital stay 1 day or 1 night (depending on the severity of the case)
  • Anaesthesia General
  • Time off work 7 – 10 days
  • Getting back to normal including being able to do sports: 4 – 6 weeks. Patients are recommended to wear a sports bra after the surgery for one month. This helps to support and compress the breasts which gently helps to reduce swelling.
Breast Lift

Breast Lift

Beautiful breasts are a rarity in the general population, but the media present these very exceptions as standard examples to us all which can often make women feel inadequate. Sagging breasts develop when a woman loses a lot of weight or breast feeds her children. The skin loses its elasticity and the breast can hang down which lowers the nipple area as well. Breast lifting removes the redundant skin and repositions the nipple areola to a more ‘ideal’ position. This is a remarkable procedure because it elevates and reshapes the breast, providing a more youthful appearance. The scarring is minimal and will reduce over time. The breast lift is often performed in conjunction with breast augmentation. Although breast lifts are mostly performed on younger women, the procedure is often performed on more mature women too.

  • Surgery time 3 – 4 hours
  • Hospital stay 1 day or 1 night (depending on the severity of the case)
  • Anaesthesia General
  • Time off work 7 – 10 days
  • Getting back to normal including being able to do sports: 4 – 6 weeks. Patients are recommended to wear a sports bra after the surgery for one month. This helps to support and compress the breasts which gently helps to reduce swelling.
Breast Reduction

Breast Reduction

There are 20 different surgical procedures for reducing and lifting breasts. Preference is given to procedures that produce the least scars, preserve sensation in the nippels and maintain the ability to breast feed. The breast reduction procedure is typically for women who are looking to reduce the size of their breasts for health or aesthetic reasons. Large breasts can distort posture and cause difficulty in breathing as well as causing back and neck pain. Breast reduction can also be used to correct and reduce outsized areola and nipples. They can also make exercise very difficult. This really can be a life changing surgery.

Breast Reconstruction

Breast Reconstruction

Asides from being painful, losing one or both breasts can be physiologically disturbing. It is entirely normal to feel anxious, uncertain, sad and mournful about having a mastectomy. Thanks to modern technology we can now rebuild breasts and provide mastectomy patients with a sense of normality. Breast reconstruction varies according to the type of mastectomy performed, however, the most common procedure involves placing a simple implant in the breast region. If there is not enough skin to accommodate the implant, then skin tissue can be taken from another part of the body, for example the back or abdomen.

  • Surgery time 3 – 4 hours
  • Hospital stay 1 night
  • Anaesthesia General
  • Time off work 7 – 10 days
  • Getting back to normal including being able to do sports: 4 – 6 weeks. Patients are recommended to wear a sports bra after the surgery for one month. This helps to support and compress the breasts which gently helps to reduce swelling.
Male Breasts

Male Breasts (Gynaecomastia)

Male breast reduction is the most effective known treatment for gynaecomastia, or enlarged male breasts. This cosmetic surgery procedure removes excess fat and glandular tissue to restore a flatter, firmer and more masculine contour to the chest. Due to genetics, use of certain medications, or other unspecified reasons, some men develop the appearance of enlarged breasts. Gynaecomastia can present itself at any age, and male breast reduction can be performed safely and successfully on teenagers and adult men alike.

The procedure for treating gynaecomastia with liposuction involves a small incision on each side of the chest. Depending on your needs, incisions may be located along a portion of the edge of the areola or within the armpit. Through these incisions, the excess fat and/or glandular tissue is removed, at the same time sculpting a new chest contour that looks natural to your body.

  • Surgery time 2 – 3 hours
  • Hospital stay 1 night
  • Anaesthesia General
  • Time off work 1 week
Body Lift

Body Lift

A body lift is often performed alongside liposuction especially around the buttocks and hip area, if required. The tension and elasticity of the skin vary greatly from one person to another so each case has to be assessed carefully. The procedure removes excessive amounts of skin from the body which can arise from excessive weight loss. There are different ways and options to tackle a body lift. As the name implies, the lower body lift focusses on the lower half of the body, the abdomen, buttocks, hips and thighs. The upper body lift focusses on the upper arms, back, sides and sometimes breasts. The lateral body lift focuses entirely on the hip area.

One of our specialists is an expert in weight loss and body contorting and can discuss with you what is needed to get the best results depending on your body shape and reduction requirements. The recovery period varies from patient to patient but the outcome of this surgery is absolutely spectacular.

  • Surgery time 3 – 5 hours (depending on what areas are being worked on)
  • Hospital stay 1 – 2 nights (or more depending on the severity of the procedure)
  • Anaesthesia General or spinal block required
  • Time off work 2 – 4 weeks
  • Getting back to normal including being able to do sports: 6 – 12 weeks (full recovery from swelling can take several months or longer)
Inside Thighs

Inside Thighs

The inside thighs are one of the areas of the body where the skin is thinnest. This can easily result in hanging skin especially if a lot of weight has been lost or simply due to the ageing process. The hanging skin can create a distressing roll of fat which can lead to problems such as rubbing, often resulting in sores on the skin. By removing the excess skin and fat during surgery, a much more pleasing look to the inner thigh is achieved. A great feature of this procedure is that the scar can be hidden in the area where the upper thigh meets the groin.

  • Surgery time 1 – 2 hours
  • Hospital stay 1 day (unless this is done with another procedure)
  • Anaesthesia General
  • Time off work 1 week (unless this is done with another procedure)
  • Getting back to normal including being able to do sports: 4 – 6 weeks
Upper Back Lift

Upper Back Lift

Often fat and skin can accumulate on the back either due to excessive weight loss or ageing. This can be removed, leaving a horizontal scar which can be hidden under a bra or swimwear.

  • Surgery time 1 hour
  • Hospital stay 1 night
  • Anaesthesia General
  • Time off work 1 week (unless this is done with another procedure)
  • Getting back to normal including being able to do sports: 4 – 6 weeks
Arms

Arms

The excess of fat and skin under the tops of the arms can be unsightly and especially limiting where certain fashion choices are concerned. Lifting or performing liposuction around the fatty areas of the skin can help refine the shape and appearance of the arms. Certainly a fantastic way to open up your wardrobe to more clothing options. Being relatively uncomplicated with the benefit of being able to hide the scarring, the whole procedure is simply miraculous.

  • Surgery time 1 – 3 hours
  • Hospital stay 1 day (unless this is done with another procedure)
  • Anaesthesia General
  • Time off work 2 – 3 days (unless this is done with another procedure)
  • Getting back to normal including being able to do sports: 2 – 4 weeks
Ear Reshaping

Ear Reshaping

Having large ears is undoubtedly a problem for many children and adults and can lead to a great deal of distress in everyday life. Children with large ears often find themselves the object of ridicule, making it hard for them to deal with the school environment. Adults with large ears tend to be extremely self-conscious, making it harder to mingle with others. With modern science we now have the solution to this issue. Otoplasty is a procedure used to reduce large or protruding ears by setting the ears back closer to the head as well as moulding, shaping and/or removing cartilage.

Otoplasty can dramatically change a person’s appearance simply by making protruding ears look more normal. Often the problem is caused by an undeveloped middle fold of the ear. There may be other deformities as well making it necessary to perform several procedures on the ear at the same time. Otoplasty can reshape the ears, reduce their size and make them more symmetrical. The procedure can be performed at any age after the ears have reached, or nearly reached, their full size which is around five to six years old.

  • Surgery time 2 – 4 hours
  • Hospital stay 1 – 2 nights stay
  • Anaesthesia General
  • Time off work 2 weeks
  • Getting back to normal including being able to do sports: 4 – 6 weeks or more (full recovery from swelling and bruising may take one to three months)
